My name is Diego Figueroa, and I'm a music photographer from Mexico City. I've been shooting shows since 2009. I've covered hundreds of shows and festivals for some of the most important magazines, music websites, record labels, venues, promoters and brands. You can contact me by Email, see more of my work at my rock photography blog tresrolas.com, see a list of every band I've photographed on The List, watch some videos i've shot From the Pit or follow my social network profiles listed above.

Good bye 2013.

Muse

So, in the spirit of year end lists, I’ve already compiled my favorite 50 photos published on my rock photo blog tresrolas.com (which you can see here) but I left out a lot more from shows I didn’t publish there so here it goes, a list of my favorite photos of this 2013, a great year in which I shot more than 100 shows (around 112), I travelled to Voodoo Experience in NOLA, my first international festival as a photographer, and published a lot of photos, mainly for Indie Rocks and Telehit magazine. So, without further ado, and hoping to a better 2014, here are my favorite photos from 2013 (others than that already published on tresrolas).

100.

Devendra Banhart

So I finally reached 100 shows in one year with Devendra Banhart’s concert last week. My previous mark was approximately 86 in 2011 and 70 in 2013 because of a camera failure that kept me sidelined for a month but now it looks like I’ll end up around 110 with what’s left of the year, ending with the great Foo Fighters!

You can see more Devendra Banhart photos here.

This past weekend I went to New Orleans to shoot the Voodoo Music + Arts Experience, my first festival out of the country and it was a great experience, a great festival with three excellent headliners: Pearl Jam, Nine Inch Nails and The Cure.
Right now you can see some photos at IndieRocks! website:
Day 1 - Desaparecidos, Calvin Harris, Pearl Jam
Day 2 - Reignwolf, Cults, New Found Glory, Alkaline Trio, Nine Inch Nails
Day 3 - Robert Delong, Matt and Kim, Moon Taxi, The Cure
UPDATE: Full sets from almost each band now available at tresrolas.com

Pablo Alboran iOS app Pablo Alboran iOS app Pablo Alboran's website, pabloalboran.es EMI Music Spain newsletter

Pablo Alborán, Spanish pop singer, recently released his iOS app with info on tours, music and photos of past events. Included in the photos section of the app is an album of his last visit to Mexico, March 6, 2013, which I was hired to shoot for EMI/Universal Music Mexico.

The album is called Promoción Mexico Marzo 2013 and it includes photos of a showcase at Centro Cultural Roberto Cantoral shot by me. I had worked with Pablo before in two previous promo visits where he had some showcases but were really basic in production terms. For this one, the label booked this new venue that sounds good, and with a few screens and lights behind Pablo and his musicians, they made it look great. I had a lot of fun shooting this show, which was also broadcasted on TV. These photos were also used on bulletins and on Pablo’s website, so it was cool seeing my shots in his website and on newsletters sent to mexican and spanish fans.

See the full gallery right in the app or in this link.

Indio Emergente Festival 2012

Passion Pit

In november 2012, Cerveza Indio, a well know beer brand in Mexico (and I believe in the US as well) launched its very own music festival called Indio Emergente, happening in Guadalajara, Queretaro and Puebla with rotating lineups, very much like the Leeds and Reading festivals. The festival lineup had Feist, Passion Pit, The Shins, Portugal. The Man, Band of Skulls, Kate Nash and more artists signed on board. I was sent to Guadalajara to shoot the festival for Indio’s official website and social media real time coverage.

Satin Dolls

4 years ago today I went to Salón Tijuana to see Satin Dolls play what would be their last show as a band. I already knew them from other projects so I asked if I could shoot them for personal use and they agreed. I uploaded some photos on a tumblr blog I started to show some photos I had from vacations, or whatever it is I shot, I wasn’t even that good, but since that day I started to seek out more bands I knew, turning that blog into a music photography website, now called tresrolas.com, in which I never thought I would publish photos from Radiohead, Pulp, Stone Temple Pilots and a lot more. As of today I have 608 posts up, approximately 593 bands/artists and around 250 shows and festivals. I can only hope I’m able to keep doing this “four more years” or even longer. Thank you all who have visited my site!

In september 2012, No Words magazine interviewed me for their 8th issue, including some photos from bands such as Foster the People, Radiohead, KoRn and more. They asked me about how I got into photography, my work as a music photographer, people and bands that have inspired me and some goals I had back then, some of which have already been accomplished or will be very soon (:

You can read the interview (in spanish) here.

Hello.

Paramore

Paramore’s Hayley Williams, live at Palacio de los Deportes in Mexico City, July 15, 2013.

Welcome to the newly redesigned DEFG.com.mx, my portfolio website, which used to be just a blog where I published rants along with photos I shot with my mobile phone or my new camera back in 2009, then it slowly morphed into a music photography website which due to its growth now lives at tresrolas.com, turning this one into a summary of my work as a photographer.

Please browse around the website. Check the About section to read more about me, who I’ve worked with and the gear I use. The List has every band and artist I’ve shot with a link to see photos of said musicians. Live is a brief showcase of my live music photography, and in More you will find some portraits and Behind the Scenes photos of music videos. Finally, you can ask me anything in the Ask section.

I hope you like the website and most important, the photos. Thanks for stopping by.
